"Over You"

“Over You,” by Miranda Lambert is currently the number seven song according to billboard.com. This song is very meaningful to both Miranda and her husband Blake Shelton. On the radio during the top 40 countdown Miranda told the world why she wrote the song. Blake’s dad had made a comment to him about his brother dying when he was younger. It was along the lines of he would never be able to get over him he would just have to learn to live with it. Blake then asked Miranda to help him write the song and sing it. This song is in memory of his brother who died when Blake was younger.

This is a really good song that has a much deeper meaning once people understand why it was written. Miranda has had a great career lately and this song is definitely another top song for her.

“Over You”
Weather man said it’s gonna snow
By now I should be used to the cold
Mid-February shouldn’t be so scary
It was only December
I still remember the presents, the tree, you and me

But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

Living alone here in this place
I think of you, and I’m not afraid
Your favorite records make me feel better
Cause you sing along
With every song
I know you didn’t mean to give them to me

But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

It really sinks in, you know, when I see it in stone

Cause you went away,
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I’ll be OK
But I’m not going to ever get over you

"Ours"

This week “Ours” by Taylor Swift is the number two song according to Billboard.com. This is another one of Taylor Swift’s usual songs that talks about relationships. It talks about how people always try and screw things up for other but not to let it get you down. It has a very good memo in it but isn’t much different from her other songs.

This song, along with some others was used on the Hunger Games soundtrack. It is said that her songs helped this movie achieve such popularity. I don’t know if this is true because the movie was already extremely popular. This song is a good song with a very positive attitude. However, I wish she would write about something other than relationships!

Elevator buttons and morning air
Stranger's silence makes me wanna take the stairs
If you were here, we'd laugh about their vacant stares
But right now, my time is theirs

Seems like there's always someone who disapproves
They'll judge it like they know about me and you
And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do
The jury's out, but my choice is you

So don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
And life makes love look hard
The stakes are high, the water's rough, but this love is ours

You never know what people have up their sleeves
Ghosts from your past gonna jump out at me
Lurking in the shadows with their lip gloss smiles
But I don't care 'cause right now you're mine

And you'll say don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
And life makes love look hard
The stakes are high, the water's rough, but this love is ours

And it's not theirs to speculate if it's wrong and
Your hands are tough but they are where mine belong in
I'll fight their doubt and give you faith with this song for you

'Cause I love the gap between your teeth
And I love the riddles that you speak
And any snide remarks from my father about your tattoos will be ignored
'Cause my heart is yours

So don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
And life makes love look hard

And don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
But they can't take what's ours, they can't take what's ours
The stakes are high, the water's rough, but this love is ours

"Dancin Away with my Heart"

According to Billboard.com “Dancin Away with my Heart” by Lady Antebellum is number five on the chart. This song is about two teenagers who dance and then go their separate ways with their lives. It can relate to many people in high school because several of them will have the same story in their future.

I really like the feeling this song gives off. It has a really catchy chorus to it. It is much different than other songs because it talks about how the two of them still wonder about one another. This is a great song that everyone should at least listen to!
I finally asked you to dance
On the last slow song
Beneath that moon that was really a disco ball
I can still feel my head on your shoulder
And hoping that song would never be over

[Chorus:]
I haven't seen you in ages
Sometimes I find myself
Wondering where you are
For me you'll always be 18
And beautiful and dancin' away with my heart

I brushed your curls back so I could see your eyes
And the way you moved me was like you were reading my mind
I can still feel you lean into kiss me
I can't help but wonder if you ever miss me

[Chorus]

You headed off to college
At the end of that summer and we lost touch
I guess I didn't realize even at that moment we lost so much

[Chorus]

Nah nah nah [x3]

Away with My Heart

Nah nah nah [x3]

"Where I Come From"

“Where I Come From” by Montgomery Gentry is currently the number ten song this week, according to billboard.com. This song has a very calm mood, and is a very catchy song. I really like this song and the feeling it gives off.
In this song he talks about his home town or “where he comes from” and basically says how much he enjoys it. The song tells the listener that he lives in a small town. It shows that he respects the people who are form the city if they respect him back. The song tells all of the positive things about living in a small city and the effect they have on people.

Don't you dare go runnin' down
My little town where I grew up
And I won't cuss your city lights
If you ain't ever took a ride around
And cruised right through the heart of my town
Anything you'd say would be a lie

We may live our lives a little slower
But that don't mean I wouldn't be proud to show ya

Where I come from,
There's an old plowboy turnin' up dirt
Where I come from,
There's a preacher man in a cowboy shirt
Where I come from
Where a couple boys fight in the parking lot
No, nobody's gonna call the cops
Where I come from

See that door right there
Man, I swear that it ain't never been locked
And I guarantee that it never will
That ol' man right there in the rockin' chair
At the courthouse square, I'll tell ya now
He could buy your fancy car with hundred dollar bills

Don't let those faded overalls fool ya
He made his million without one day of schoolin'

Where I come from
There's a pickup truck with the tailgate down
Where I come from
The pine trees are singin' a song of the South
Where I come from
That little white church is gonna have a crownd
Yeah, I'm pretty damn proud
Where I come from

Where I come from
There's a big ol' moon shinin' down at night
Where I come from
There's a man done wrong gonna make it right

Where I come from
There's an old plowboy turnin' up dirt
Where I come from
There's a preacher man in a cowboy shirt
Where I come from
Where a couple boys fight in the parking lot
No, ain't nobody gonna call the cops

Yeah, that river runs across that ol' flat rock
Where I come from

Where I come from

"Better than I used to Be"

Tim-McGraw.jpg

Tim McGraw’s latest single is “Better than I Used to Be,” it is the number fifteen song according to billboard.com. This song has a very deep and clear meaning. It talks about how he knows he isn’t perfect but he has come a long ways from what he was.

This song was released as a single but is supposed to be on his album Emotional Traffic. McGraw has had a few problems with his recording company, Curb Recordings. He recently won in a court battle against them to be freed from his contract with them. He is now able to record and release new music outside of his contract. His journey isn’t over though he has another court date set in July.

I know how to hold a grudge
I can send a bridge up in smoke
And I can't count the people I've let down, the hearts I've broke
You ain't gotta dig too deep
If you wanna find some dirt on me
I'm learning who you've been
Ain't who you've got to be
It's gonna be an uphill climb
Aww honey I won't lie

I ain't no angel
I still got a still few more dances with the devil
I’m cleanin up my act, little by little
I’m getting there
I can finally stand the man in the mirror I see
I ain’t as good as I’m gonna get
But I’m better than I used to be

I’ve pinned a lot of demons to the ground
I’ve got a few old habits left
There’s one or two I might need you to help me get
Standin in the rain so long has left me with a little rust
But put some faith in me
And someday you’ll see
There’s a diamond under all this dust

I ain't no angel
I still got a still few more dances with the devil
I’m cleanin up my act, little by little
I’m getting there
I can finally stand the man in the mirror I see
I ain’t as good as I’m gonna get
But I’m better than I used to be

I ain't no angel
I still got a still few more dances with the devil
But I’m cleanin up my act, little by little
I’m getting there
I can finally stand the man in the mirror I see
I ain’t as good as I’m gonna get
But I’m better than I used to be

"Home"

Dierks Bentley

This week the song “Home” was number three according to billboard.com. This song may have a different meaning for people listening to it than it does for Dierk’s when he writes. This song is an upbeat song with a very positive meaning. I really love all of Dierk’s Bentley’s music and this song is no exception!

The song "Home" by Dierks Bentley was also written by him. "My home is in Nashville with my family, my home is on the road with our fans and my home is definitely in country music," Dierks said. This song means a lot to him because it talks about what his "home" is and everything that is important in his life. He says that this song is a compilation of trial and error that he tested out with his fans while on tour.

West, on a plane bound west
I see her stretching out below
Land, blessed mother land
The place where I was born

Scars, she’s got her scars
Sometimes it starts to worry me
Cause lose, I don’t want to lose
Sight of who we are

From the mountains high
To the wave-crashed coast
There’s a way to find
Better days I know

It’s been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
This is still the place
That we all call home

Free, nothing feels like free
though it sometimes means we don’t get along
Cause same, no we’re not the same
But that’s what makes us strong

From the mountains high
To the wave-crashed coast
There’s a way to find
Better days I know

It’s been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
This is still the place
That we all call home

Brave, gotta call it brave
To chase that dream across the sea
Names, then they signed their names
For something they believed

Red, how the blood ran red
And we laid our dead in sacred ground
Just think, wonder what they think
If they could see us now

It’s been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
This is still the place
That we all call home

It’s been a long hard ride
And I won’t lose hope
This is still the place
That we all call home

"The Trouble with Girls"

scotty-mccreery-the-trouble-with-girls-comes-out.jpgThis past week “The Trouble with Girls” by Scotty McCreery is number nineteen on the chart. He was the most recent American Idol winner and has become another known name in country music. His other big single was “I Love You this Big,” this was the first single he had. He performed this song the night that he took the title American Idol.

This song talks about exactly what the title says “The trouble with Girls.” It is a very catchy song that is a lot different from other songs that are on the radio. I like the beat of this song because it is different. However, the topic is very similar to some of the other songs that are being played on the radio. Many songs now talk about relationship problems and this song is very comparable.

The trouble with girls is their a mystery
Something about 'em puzzle's me
Spend my whole life tryin' to figure out just what dem' girls are all about
The trouble with girls is there so dang pretty
Everything about 'em does something to me
Well I guess that's the way it's supposed to be

Chorus:
They smile that smile
They bat those eyes
They steal you with hello
They kill you with goodbye
They hook you with one touch, and you can't break free
Yeah the trouble with girls is nobody loves trouble as much as me

Their sugar and spice and angel wings
Their hell on wheels and tight blue jeans
A summer night down by the lake,an old memory that you can't change
Their hard to find yea there's so many of 'em
The way you hate that you already love 'em
[ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/the-trouble-with-girls-lyrics-scotty-mccreery.html ]
But I guess that's the way its supposed to be

They smile that smile
They bat those eyes
They steal you with hello
They kill you with goodbye
They hook you with one touch and you can't break free
Yeah the trouble with girls is nobody loves trouble as much as me

The way they hold you out on the dancefloor
The way they ride in the middle of your truck
The way they give you a kiss at the front door
Leave you wishing you could have gone up
And just as you walk away you hear that sweet voice say.... "Stay"

They smile that smile
They bat those eyes
They steal you with hello
They kill you with goodbye
Their the perfect drug and I can't break free
Yeah the trouble with girls is nobody loves trouble as much as me
